On October 18^th, Cornell University is holding a special event, “Presidential Politics and the Impact on Education with Cornell University Professor of Sociology, Dr. Stephen Morgan” at the Rayburn House Office Building (45 Independence Avenue SW) in Washington, DC.  Dr. Stephen L. Morgan, the Jan Rock Zubrow '77 Professor in the Social Sciences, the Director of the Center for the Study of Inequality, and an Associate Director of the Cornell Population Center, will discuss education policy developments in the presidential race, and his new study, recently published in AERA’s Educational Research journal that examines how comparing our schools to leading countries has a negative effect on public support for spending on education.

Dr. Morgan will be presenting his AERA article, “The Consequences of International Comparisons for Public Support of K−12 Education: Evidence From a National Survey Experiment".  He will also be discussing the results of his yet-to-be-published follow-up study, which digs deeper into why international comparisons negatively influence the public when it comes to investment in education.  The event starts at 6pm with a Meet-n-Greet/Mingle, followed by Dr. Morgan’s Talk & Q&A at 6:15pm, and concluding with a reception at 6:40pm.  It is free to attend, but advance registration is required.
