House Considers Appropriations Bills of Importance to Education Researchers; Amendment to Defund IES Defeated
Throughout November, the full House of Representatives considered two FY 2024 appropriations bills of importance to education researchers: H.R. 5894, the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education legislation; and H.R. 5893, the Commerce, Justice, Science legislation. Read more

AERA Offers Strong Support for Proposed Test of 2024 ACS Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Measures
On November 20, AERA co-signed a letter with 186 other national, state, and local organizations to offer strong support for a proposal issued by the U.S. Census Bureau to conduct a test of sexual orientation, gender identity, and variations in sex characteristics measures on the American Community Survey. Read more

In Memoriam

AERA members who have recently passed away

Jeroen J. G. van Merriënboer, 64, died on November 15. He was an emeritus professor of learning and instruction at Maastricht University. Van Merriënboer was an AERA Fellow and a member of Division CLearning and Instruction. Read more

Lee A. Wicklund, 84, died on June 23. He taught or held administrative positions at the elementary through doctoral levels, including at the University of WisconsinSuperior. He also served as an adjunct professor for the University of Oregon and University of Washington. Wicklund was a member of Division AAdministration, Organization, and Leadership. Read more
