Hi REAPA Community,
We are pleased to share that the Research on the Education of Asian and Pacific Americans SIG (SIG #94) has officially changed its name to the Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in Education and Research SIG (SIG #94). This name change was unanimously approved at the AERA Council's February 7-8, 2025, meeting, and it is effective immediately.
The new name (AAPI-ER) better aligns with our SIG's mission and commitment to advancing research on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in education. In addition to capturing the diversity in our SIG, it also extends a welcome to allies who share the AAPI identity and/or engage in research for AAPI communities. We encourage our members to invite colleagues, scholars, and practitioners to join our SIG in building a stronger AAPI-ER community.
We would like to extend our appreciation to the former SIG chair, Jia "Grace" Liang, who led the name change initiative, as well as former SIG chairs who started and sustained the discussion, SIG officers, and community members who contributed to this initiative. Their leadership and dedication made this important change possible, and we are grateful for their work in shaping the future of our SIG.
Welcome to the AERA SIG: Research on the Education of Asian and Pacific Americans (REAPA). I am Yinying (Helen) Wang, an Associate Professor of Educational Leadership at Georgia State University. It is my honor to serve as the Chair of this group. Our collective goal is to promote rigorous inquiry into the educational and equity issues impacting Asian and Pacific American communities, facilitate interdisciplinary discussions around these critical topics, provide a marketplace of diverse viewpoints, and offer a supportive network for our SIG members.
We are excited to continue our work together, advancing knowledge and fostering meaningful dialogue that contributes to our collective goal. Thank you for your commitment and participation in REAPA.
Sincerely,
-

Hello lovely people in the community!
As I am getting ready for tomorrow's flight to Philadelphia, I wanted to double the excitement of knowing that we will share the space and enjoy our time together by sending out this: We heard you and you have chosen a new name for the SIG. Thanks everyone who has shared your perspectives with us throughout the process!
The SIG name change survey part 2 results are attached. The option has won the most votes is: Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in Education and Research. We, the leadership team, couldn't be more excited about this name that speaks to what this SIG means to the community.
Best,
GL
Hello all!
It is Wednesday, halfway through the week. For some of you, you are already in Spring Break, :) For some of us, that is yet to come. Anyway, the weather has been nice here at Manhattan, Kansas; I am finding myself bubblier in my mood, LoL, not hard to tell that I am a warm-weather, sunny-day type of person.
Please help the community by sharing your inputs/votes in the survey (see the link below) regarding the SIG name change. This is the second survey in the process. If you recall, we had the first survey last year and the results were shared with you. This is a really short survey; it barely takes you 5 minutes to complete. It is completely anonymous, and the aggregated results will be reported back to you.
This member-only survey will remain open until March 17 (Sunday), 11:59pm CST.

Hello all! It's Friday! For many of us, it is the time of the fall semester we are feeling it the most ... so many things need to be done. A weekend sounds really good. :)Thank you very much for your candidate feedback in the survey. We listened and wanted to share what we have learned from you. There are important elements you voiced that we stand for as a SIG and you seek for as a SIG member (Please see the 1st attachment). For the next step, a follow-up survey will be distributed (very soon) to seek your thoughts on the new possible names suggested. Your collective wisdom has been instrumental in moving us forward! THANK YOU!
