Welcome to the AERA Online Teaching and Learning SIG!
On behalf of our leadership team, I extend warm greetings to new and returning members. We are glad you are here and look forward to meaningful opportunities for engagement and collaboration through the American Educational Research Association, both at the annual meeting and throughout the year.
Our SIG focuses on educational research and practice related to online teaching and learning. This includes fully online, hybrid, and blended learning environments, as well as multimodal opportunities for engagement. We emphasize both pedagogical and learning activity within these environments and the infrastructures that support them, including learning technologies, curriculum materials, and academic programs. We also continue to attend to emerging areas such as open education and open practices. Through our collective work, we highlight key issues shaping the field, including the role of AI in online learning, accessibility and inclusive design, and the policies and practices that influence how learners engage within digital environments.
Our members come from a variety of disciplines and roles, including researchers, practitioners, designers, and leaders in digital learning. Graduate students are also an important part of our community, and we look for opportunities to recognize their contributions throughout the year. Together, we share a commitment to advancing equitable and high-quality online learning across cultures and contexts.
We are thrilled that you are part of this community. We encourage you to participate by submitting proposals to the annual meeting, serving as a reviewer, contributing to communications (e.g., newsletter items, webinars, member spotlights), working on special projects, or running for SIG officer roles. Please join us on LinkedIn, BlueSky, X (formerly Twitter), and Facebook.
For recent news about the SIG, please see the latest newsletter.
Looking forward to collaborating with you!
