Welcome to the AERA Classroom Assessment SIG

Our theme this year is:

Is this thing on?: Strengthening and Amplifying our Voices

As a SIG, we have a unique opportunity to spread the word about current research and practices surrounding classroom assessment. This means bringing together our collective voices to build connections among researchers and practitioners, creating opportunities for dialogue and professional development, and supporting each other in sharing knowledge and experiences. To make our voices heard, we must extend these conversations beyond our SIG, finding common ground with other AERA SIGs and Divisions and educators, policymakers, and the public. To accomplish this, we will focus our efforts on the following:

• Celebrating Successes: We will continue to highlight our fruitful initiatives, such as our robust monthly newsletter and seasonal podcast, and to celebrate the work of our esteemed members. 
• Taking Advantage of Opportunities: We will encourage new initiatives and connections, using our collective resources to foster collaborations with stakeholders both nationally and internationally. 
• Embracing Challenges: We will leverage our networks to build a stronger community and explore public-facing publication opportunities to bring awareness to classroom assessment.

To address our focus and guiding question, the leadership team will organize and facilitate collaboration and the dissemination of News and Announcements around research, policy, practice, and public engagement—become a SIG member to receive our monthly newsletter!

SIG members receive:

• Announcements for online and in-person events (e.g., webinars, conferences, field coordination calls, community building activities),
• A quarterly podcast on classroom assessment,
• Alerts for newly published work in classroom assessment
• Publishing opportunities,
• Funding opportunities,
• Methods guidance,
• Opportunities to contribute to the SIG and field (e.g., as a reviewer, session chair/discussion, representation opportunities for graduate students and early career scholars, writing and public engagement opportunities),
• Award opportunities (i.e., our Distinguished Paper and Emerging Scholar Awards),
• And more!
