Welcome to the AERA Classroom Assessment SIG—a community working to understand and improve assessment used in classrooms to support teaching and learning!

Our theme this year is:

Classroom Assessment for Student Success: Research, Policy, Practice, and the Public

Some questions that will guide the focus of classroom assessment to support student success are:

  • Research: What do we know as a field and what do we need to learn more about?
  • Policy: How can classrooms, schools, districts, states/provinces, and nations support teachers’ use of high-quality classroom assessment through policy?
  • Practice: What are essential practices teachers must use to ensure all students can be successful? What does it look like under various conditions?
  • Public: What does the public need to know about classroom assessment in schools? How can high-quality classroom assessment become well understood and our research recognized as the basis for premium education?

To address our focus and guiding question, the leadership team will organize and facilitate collaboration and the dissemination of News and Announcements around research, policy, practice, and public engagement—become a SIG member to receive our monthly newsletter!

SIG members receive:

  • Announcements for online and in-person events (e.g., webinars, conferences, field coordination calls, community building activities),
  • A quarterly podcast on classroom assessment,
  • Alerts for newly published work in classroom assessment
  • Publishing opportunities,
  • Funding opportunities,
  • Methods guidance,
  • Opportunities to contribute to the SIG and field (e.g., as a reviewer, session chair/discussion, representation opportunities for graduate students and early career scholars, writing and public engagement opportunities),
  • Award opportunities (i.e., our Distinguished Paper and Emerging Scholar Awards),
  • And more!

Please consider submitting your work to the Classroom Assessment SIG and joining our community. All are welcome. Feel free to reach out to me or any member of our leadership team!

Warmly,

Dustin
