Goals for 2022-23

  • Facilitate activities within the refresh, rebuild, and extend initiatives of the AERA Classroom Assessment SIG (e.g., rethinking applications for our two awards; adding early career representatives to advisory committee; readings and historical information to the web).
  • Involve the membership in charting our direction .
  • Be transparent throughout the process of implementing this theme.
  • Balance representation in the program between established scholars/institutions and new voices in the field.
  • Provide a focal activity in the business meeting and reception that stimulates thought and connections among members.
  • Continue facilitating the regular distribution of the newsletter with high-quality communication (to include AERA Classroom Assessment SIG information, including relevant resources).
  • Foster graduate student engagement in the SIG (e.g., fall webinar on the job search;  graduate student social at the annual meeting; meet-and-greet with classroom assessment scholar at annual meeting).
  • Conceptualize, brainstorm, and document the roles and responsibilities of the early career scholars/practitioners (e.g. curate quarterly classroom assessment podcast; etc.).
  • Facilitate the conceptuation of the meaning of “classroom assessment”.
  • Working with the SIG CA executive committee, develop and implement a plan to enhance the number of awards applicants demonstrating high quality work. (e.g., identify strong candidates based on the review of submissions and contact those presenters to say “You are being considered for x award, please do y.”)
  • Develop and publish a timeline of all activities associated with the responsibility of the Awards Subcommittee, which will be used to enhance communication through mechanisms such as chair communications, monthly newsletters, and the web, including suggestions for future development.
  • Document and implement the Distinguished Paper and Emerging Scholar Awards for 2022-2023.
  • Review, update, and expand (e.g., resources, historical info) on the AERA Classroom Assessment SIG website.
  • Maintain Google drive access for the AERA Classroom Assessment SIG website.
  • Increase membership (e.g., emailing lapsed members, network to other similar entities using a variety of outreach strategies).
  • Facilitate high-quality communications on the advisory committee.
