What is the deadline for submission of applications?
The online portion of the application and supplemental documents must be received by November 30, 2012. Late applications will not be accepted.

What is the notification date of the awards?
Applicants will be notified of their award status by May 2013.

Can I apply if my degree is not from a department or school of education?
At the time of appointment, fellows must have an earned doctorate in education or a related social or behavioral science field (i.e., anthropology, psychology, statistics, or sociology).

Do applicants have to be US citizens?
Potential applicants do not have to be US citizens in order to apply for the AERA-ETS Fellowship Program in Measurement and Education Research.

Does an application have to be sent to ETS in order to apply for the AERA-ETS Fellowship Program in Measurement and Education Research?
Applicants do not need to send application materials to ETS. Finalists will interview with ETS staff.

Is there an example of a successful application from previous years?
AERA is unable to make previous applications publicly available. However, potential applicants are encouraged to read "The Art of Writing Proposals" an article published by the Social Science Research Council about crafting a competitive research proposal. What is the acceptable format to submit the personal statement, dissertation abstract, dissertation/doctoral thesis summary, writing sample, and curriculum vita?

All uploaded documents must be submitted in PDF.

Do letters of recommendation and reference forms have to be mailed to AERA?
Yes. Letters of recommendation and reference forms must be mailed to AERA. Applicants are responsible for ensuring their letters are received by November 30, 2012.

Is an official transcript required for the AERA-ETS Fellowship Program in Measurement application?
Yes. Official graduate school transcripts must be received by November 30, 2012.

What if I currently have funding from another source?
The AERA-ETS Fellows Program is a full time position with time allotted for individual research and professional development. Fellows must obtain permission from AERA and ETS before accepting other positions.

Can I receive the AERA-ETS Fellowship if I have not yet completed my doctoral degree?
Fellows must have completed their PhD/EdD degrees within three years of beginning the fellowship.  The fellowship will begin on July 1, 2013 or soon thereafter.

What is the tenure and amount of the AERA-ETS Fellowship Program in Measurement and Education Research?
Fellows will receive a $55,000 annual salary, relocation expenses, and ETS employee benefits.  Fellows will acquire up to two years of experience in a stimulating environment that encourages excellence in research, teamwork and collaboration, and evaluation.
