A volume in Evaluation and Society Series Editors, Jennifer C. Greene, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Stewart I. Donaldson, Claremont Graduate University

This volume addresses a fundamental and highly debated issue in the evaluation field – the use of evaluation information for decision-making. Chapter authors honor the contributions of Professor Marvin C. Readers will come away from this volume with a new and clearer understanding of the theoretical, contextual, methodological, and political dimensions of use and with direction for practice. Chapters are written by leading evaluation scholars, including Ernest House; Stewart Donaldson and Tarek Azzam; Eric Barela; Richard D. Nunneley, Jr., Jean A. King, Kelli Johnson, and Laura Pejsa; Eleanor Chelimsky; Michael Quinn Patton; and Wanda D. Casillas, Rodney K. Hopson and Ricardo L. Gomez.

Evaluation Use and Decision-Making in Society: A Tribute to Marvin C. Alkin will be of great interest to evaluation students, scholars and practitioners. DIRECTORS OF RESEARCH AND EVALUATION RESOURCES

The Directors of Research and Evaluation (DRE) is the professional organization for those in leadership roles in K12 LEA Research and Evaluation (or similar) Departments. We connect colleagues, share district produced research and hold an annual meeting on the first day of AERA. We invite anyone who shares our jobs to join your colleagues in DRE. To learn more go to www.redirectors.org. (If you are a test director you may also want to explore the National Association of Assessment Directors at www.natd.org).

Two resources we provide to DREs are a weekly newsletter on the latest research that may be of interest to K12 researchers (http://paper.li/RE_Directors/1363871353) and a repository of district and other applied research in K12 settings (http://www.arniedocs.info/). As a member of Division H we know you have an interest in applied research in schools, so we wanted to make sure you know that these resources are open to all Division H members. You can subscribe to the newsletter or browse the research studies. We also welcome any submissions of research studies you have conducted for, or in, K12 settings.

If you have any questions, please contact Joe O’Reilly at

DIVISION H MEMBER GIVES TED TALK

Dr. Jenny Rankin, who lectures at University of Cambridge, gave a TED Talk at TEDxTUM involving research she’ll be presenting at the 2016 AERA and NCME annual meetings. The talk relates to the effective communication of education data. She shows us how data can be made “over-the-counter” so it is easy for educators to understand and use without the help of a professional. Watch here
