The destruction caused by Hurricane Irma has created immense pain and hardship. Just as we supported those affected by Hurricane Harvey, the American Educational Research Association (AERA) expresses concern to our colleagues, students, and all people throughout Florida, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and the entire Caribbean who are experiencing significant harm and loss.

With educational institutions remaining closed and students and families displaced from their homes, it is imperative we all support and provide assistance to every person in the Gulf Coast, Florida, and the Caribbean amid these challenging times.

AERA is encouraging those who can contribute to help all individuals affected by Hurricane Irma in protecting the health and safety of children, youth, and adults within the area. One credible source is Charity Navigator, which offers information about different organizations and ways to contribute.

We must come together during the coming weeks and months to help distressed communities rebuild property, restore peace of mind, and return to normalcy. Our thoughts are with all who are suffering during this very difficult time.
