As part of a two-year pilot, AERA will continue the Youth Teams in Education Research (YTER) initiative that was introduced at the 2023 Annual Meeting with much success. It will take place the first three days of the 2024 Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, April 11-13.

The program brings teams of high school students to present their work in a high-profile featured poster session and to participate in a mini-workshop to discuss the ongoing research projects at their respective high schools, issues important to them in their studies, and potential opportunities for continuing to pursue research engagements. During the workshop, students will have the opportunity to meet with early career and accomplished senior scholars. Students will also attend a selected group of sessions featuring major speakers.

The 2023 program included 13 competitively selected teams of high school students, which included 79 students from the U.S., Canada, and Spain.

“We’re thrilled to be offering this program again after the great success of last year’s program at the 2023 Annual Meeting,” said AERA Executive Director Felice J. Levine. “This initiative builds on AERA’s commitment to engage with high school youth and provide opportunities that foster an interest in education research. We’re looking forward to further nurturing emerging scholars and their interest in the field.”

The program is designed for high school students who are currently working with an education researcher on the researcher’s study or are being advised by an education researcher. Applications will be advanced by the education researchers, who will provide an overview of their work with high school youth. High school teachers or those at other organizations who are guiding high school students in research are also eligible to apply.

Teams selected to participate will receive partial funding support to attend the 2024 AERA Annual Meeting in Philadelphia.

Eligible YTER proposals need to include a minimum of four and a maximum of eight high school students. Proposals are due November 16. To learn more, read the Call for Proposals.
