AERA will continue the Graduate Student Research-in-Progress Roundtables (RiP) initiative at the 2024 Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, PA. The special initiative was introduced and received enthusiastically at the 2023 Annual Meeting. The series provides opportunities for graduate students, who are actively engaged in research but not ready to advance a paper submission, to present and discuss their work-in-progress in a formal presentation.

The Research-in-Progress Roundtables are open only to graduate students who did not otherwise submit a paper, whether accepted or declined, as an author or co-author for the 2024 Annual Meeting. Up to six roundtable sessions will be held in Philadelphia during three days of the conference, which is being held April 11–14.

“We are thrilled to again offer this opportunity as an innovative way to support graduate students in the early stage of their careers,” said AERA Executive Director Felice J. Levine. “The 2024 Annual Meeting theme seeks to support education researchers across all career stages, and graduate students are crucial to sustaining the strength of the field.”

To be considered for the RiP roundtables, graduate students will submit a short-form overview of their research with information about its current stage. The submission includes a brief working paper (maximum 1,000 words) that presents the research in progress and any findings or salient issues to date, as applicable.

If the number of eligible submissions exceeds the number of spaces available, submissions will be accepted in the order received. The deadline for submission is December 15. To learn more, read the Call for Submissions.
