January 2024

AERA has announced that downloads from AERA’s open access Online Paper Repository have now exceeded 100,000. This landmark is a testament to AERA’s efforts to disseminate scholarly research to a wide audience. From the repository’s launch in 2010 through the end of last month, 107,473 papers have been downloaded.

See the top 10 downloaded papers here.

AERA invites the education research community and anyone with an interest in the field to explore this rich, user-friendly resource. Not all the papers listed have been made available by the authors, but all have abstracts and metadata in the repository.

Since 2017, each full-text paper in the repository has been assigned a digital object identifier (DOI), which allows for persistent discoverability and accurate citation. In 2022, the repository was enhanced with improved functionality, a new color palette, and graphics from each of the annual meetings.

For information about papers presented at an annual meeting before 2010, please visit the online program for that meeting (programs are available on the AERA website back to 2005). Those seeking full-text papers presented at AERA Annual Meetings before 2010 or not included in the repository subsequently need to contact the authors directly.

Here are some helpful tips for navigating the repository:

  • Go to the Repository home page, choose a year, and hit Search Menu.
  • Choose Simple Search to use one criterion. Advanced Search lets users choose among various parameters and search methods for finding specific text. Users will also see options to search by author or by AERA division, SIG, or other unit (unless you have selected “View All” rather than a specific year).
  • Choose “And” or “Or” if that choice appears; toggle between “Metadata” and “Document” depending on what you are searching for.
  • Click the search symbol.
  • Full-text papers will display the download arrow at left. In the Data column you can click for information about any paper, including an abstract.
