John Q. Easton, who has served as director of the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) since 2009, will leave this fall to become a distinguished senior fellow at the Spencer Foundation. His move comes six months after Jack Buckley, commissioner of IES’s National Center for Education Statistics, left for the College Board.

Over the past five years, Easton has worked to continue to advance research of the highest quality and to make research more relevant to practice. (See Easton discuss his goals for IES in this AERA video.) His responsibilities at Spencer will include building research–practice partnerships.

Prior to taking the helm at IES, Easton was the executive director of the Consortium on Chicago School Research at the University of Chicago. He also served on the National Assessment Governing Board from 2003 to 2007.
