Assuming Agency: Taking Ownership of the Mid-Career Stage

Thursday, April 4: 12:30PM –4:30PM
Friday, April 5: 8:15AM –11:30AM

Many associate professors feel “stuck in the middle” - plagued with growing service expectations (particularly for women and other underrepresented faculty members), misalignment between workload and reward sys-tems, vague and unclear criteria for advancement to full professorship, increased responsibilities, varying ex-pectations, and multiplying demands on their time.

This AERA pre-conference session will provide mid-career faculty strategies to assert themselves and find sup-port in challenging contexts while assuming personal agency over their careers. Topics include:

  •  Managing your Research Pipeline
  •  Controlling Your Narrative
  •  Mapping your Mentoring Network
  •  Assuming Agency & Work Life Balance
  •  Tips, Tools, and Hacks to get to Full Professorship
  •  Developing your Voice as Faculty and Campus Leader

Faculty who are post-tenure with 15-years until retirement should apply to participate:

If selected to participate, participants will be asked to pay a $60 (US) participation fee which will help defray costs of food, workshop materials, and room rental.

Apply here.
