5. Other AERA News.

5a. Amicus Brief. AERA is preparing an Amicus brief for the Fisher v.
University of Texas-Austin court case which will rule on using affirmative
action criteria for college admission. Basically AERA will argue that the
substantial amount of social good that comes out of affirmative action
admissions dramatically outweighs any potential harm that could accrue to
individual underprepared admittees.

5b. Presidential Task Forces. Our current AERA President, Bill Tierney,
has established 3 task forces this year: (a) guidance on criteria for
tenure in a changing world, (b) standards for part-time, adjunct, and
contingent faculty, and (c) bullying. The bullying task force will produce
a series of 11 briefs on various topics.

5c.  AERA Centennial. AERA will be 100 years old in 2016. AERA is planning
a series of activities, celebrations, and media events. Since school
district directors of research bureaus were the founders of AERA, Division
H will take a very active role in planning.

5d. AERA Awards. There are several AERA-wide awards given to researchers
from life-time achievement to early career. Nominations are being accepted
through November. Self nominations are acceptable. More information is
available on the AERA website: aera.net
