Welcome to the official American Education Research Association (AERA) site for the Learning Environments Special Interest Group (SIG/LE).

The SIG aims to increase our understanding of pre-primary, primary, high school, college and university, and lifelong learning environments irrespective of subject area. `Learning environment' refers to the social, physical, psychological and pedagogical contexts in which learning occurs and which affect student achievement and attitudes. Apart from classroom-level and school-level environments, the SIG/LE gives special attention to the many out-of-school learning environments such as the home, science centers, and television, etc. The influence of the rapidly developing field of Information Technology as well as the importance of physical spaces both inside and outside are critical considerations in  learning environments. We invite new insights into learning environments and welcome critical research which contributes to outcomes for stakeholders in education.
