SIG Awards 2024  

(Awarded at AERA 2025 Conference)

Distinguished Research Paper Award

Every year the Mentoring SIG recognizes individuals who make outstanding contributions in mentoring research, and the Distinguished Paper Award is presented at the AERA Business Meeting.

Congratulations to this year’s recipients Rajashi Ghosh and Alene Montgomery, Teachers College, Columbia University, for their paper: "Comprehending multiple identities as minoritized students in engineering: How can developmental networks grow meaning-making capacity?"

Dissertation Award

This award shall recognize outstanding contributions to the research of mentorship and mentoring practice.

The award recognizes a dissertation that addresses mentoring in any context. Recognizing the distinguished dissertation is a way to support emerging scholars, recognize the accomplishments and contributions of doctoral students and promote research in the area of mentoring. The recipient of the Dissertation of the Year Award will be recognized at the annual SIG business meeting during the AERA annual meeting conference.

Eligibility Criteria: The dissertation must have been completed and successfully defended within the past academic year of the current AERA conference.

Nomination Process: All submissions can be self-nominated or nominated by a colleague or professor.

Submittal due date is December 31, 2024.

Dissertation Award

Dale K. Willson, Ph.D., Educational Leadership, Research, and Policy,  University of Colorado-Colorado Springs

 A Light in the Dark: A Qualitative Meta Synthesis of Pre-Tenure Faculty Mentorship Promising Practices  was selected for the 2023 Dissertation of the Year Award  by the Mentorship & Mentoring Practices SIG of the American Educational Research Association. Dr. Willson's research highlighted important issues that the committee felt deserved recognition and celebration.
