This webinar provides instruction and advice on writing successful applications to the Institute of Education Sciences’ (IES) Education Research Grants program (84.305A) and Special Education Research Grants program (84.324A). Prospective applicants who have not received an IES grant should participate. This webinar covers the four sections of the research narrative (significance, research plan, personnel, and resources), focusing on (1) the content expected, (2) techniques to clearly explicate the content, and (3) ways to provide continuity throughout the narrative. Direct instruction on these topics will be accompanied by review of examples. Applicants will be able to ask questions about their specific research ideas. Participants are expected to be familiar with the IES Requests for Applications (see http://ies.ed.gov/funding/), to have the skills needed for such research, and to submit a research idea and sketch of a proposed project beforehand.

Application Procedures

Individuals interested in participating in the IES webinar should submit the following application materials:

  • 1-2 page Letter describing their goals for the webinar and their proposed project as it relates to IES’ goals.
  • 1-2 page Curriculum Vitae or Resume.

Application materials must be submitted as PDF e-mail attachments to profdevel@aera.net by June 29th, 2012. Include “AERA-IES Webinar: Writing an Application for an IES Grant” in the e-mail subject line.
