Press Policy
Please review the 2023 AERA Annual Meeting Press Policy.

About the Annual Meeting
The AERA Annual Meeting is the largest gathering of scholars in the field of education research. It is a showcase for ground-breaking, innovative studies in a diverse array of areas—from early education through higher education, from digital learning to second language literacy. It is where to encounter ideas and data that will shape tomorrow's education practices and policies, and where to connect with leading thinkers from the U.S. and around the world.

When and Where
The 2023 Annual Meeting will be a dual-component conference, with place-based sessions in Chicago, IL, and other sessions offered on a virtual platform. The in-person component will be held April 13-16 in Chicago and May 4-5 on the virtual platform.

The 2023 Annual Meeting in Chicago will be held at multiple downtown hotels. The headquarter hotels are the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile, Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park, Hyatt Regency Chicago, InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile, Radisson Blue Aqua Hotel, Sheraton Grand Chicago, and Swissotel Chicago.

Placed-based Sessions and Virtual Sessions
Place-based sessions will be held in Chicago and other sessions on a virtual platform, based on presenters’ preferences.  Reporters who choose to attend in person also will be able to watch all virtual sessions live online or access the recordings later.

Vaccination Policy, Masking, and Tests
As part of the entry requirements for the 2023 AERA Annual Meeting, all attendees must have UP-TO-DATE VACCINATION and at least one booster to attend in person (if eligible). All place-based attendees will need to upload their vaccination card through SafeAccess. Mask wearing is strongly encouraged, but not required, in common areas. We expect attendees will be unmasked while eating or drinking. Mutual respect and health and safety remain priority goals. Prior to traveling to Chicago, we encourage attendees to self-test as a precaution.

See proof of vaccination requirements for those with and without U.S. vaccination cards here.

UPDATE: In a special session on Monday, March 6, 2023, the AERA Executive Board modified the AERA vaccination policy with respect to medical and religious exemptions. Learn more

2023 Annual Meeting Theme
The theme for 2023 is “Interrogating Consequential Education Research in Pursuit of Truth.”
