We are currently accepting chapters for the edited Handbook on Education and Civic Engagement, which will be published by Edward Elgar Publishing in late 2026. You are invited to submit your chapter to Dr. Heather Coffey (hcoffey@charlotte.edu).

Please contact Dr. Heather Coffey at hcoffey@charlotte.edu with any questions.

1) July 30, 2025: Call for Chapters: Handbook of Education and Civic Engagement

This volume will focus on research and conceptual book chapters addressing the ways that community engaged scholarship frequently influences the mission statements of institutions of higher education in addition to providing the foundation for the vision and values. This publication also seeks to provide valuable insight on how reciprocal partnerships between institutions of higher education and community organizations are working to solve global challenges. As this project is interdisciplinary and will appeal to an international audience, we seek submissions from all areas of higher education, including, but not limited to the fields of education, social work, ethnic studies, psychology, sociology, cultural studies, science, engineering, etc. to share empirical research, theoretical ideations, historical accounts, and community engaged scholarship. Chapters will be peer reviewed.

This book will be divided into five sections:

· Overview of the history and theory of community engagement in education

· Curriculum and pedagogy associated with community engagement

· Community Engagement in Educational Settings

· Developing Strategic Reciprocal Partnerships

· Student and Community Outcomes

Please submit a proposal for your chapter in under 500 words and a brief bio of all authors (approximately 150 words each) by September 12, 2025 to hcoffey@charlotte.edu. Each proposal should include the section with which the chapter aligns, the purpose of the work, and how it explicitly relates to community engagement. The final chapter versions should approximately be 3000-4000 words (including references).
