Job Descriptions for TACTL SIG Officers
Chair. The Chair shall be responsible for the general administration of the SIG, for ensuring that the SIG Bylaws are followed, and act as the liaison between the SIG and AERA and the SIG and the SIG TACTL Executive Committee. The Chair shall preside at all meetings of the SIG TACTL Executive Committee and at the Annual Business Meeting. The Chair shall appoint ad hoc committees as needed. Unless otherwise specified in these Bylaws, the Chair of the SIG shall appoint persons to assist officers, to chair committees or to carry out other work of the SIG. The Chair shall be the communications officer for TACTL, compiling and disseminating SIG information by email or via the TACTL website at least twice a year. The Chair shall act as Program Chairperson for the AERA annual meeting at which the Chair’s term expires. The Chair shall automatically assume the role of Immediate Past Chair after being elected and serving as Chair for one year.
Chair-Elect. The Chair-Elect shall collaborate with the Chair and Program Chair. The Chair-Elect is responsible for all award nominations, assembling reviewing panels, and selecting final awards based on reviewers’ ranking. The Chair-Elect shall automatically assume the role of Chair after being elected and serving as Chair-Elect for one year.
Immediate Past Chair. The Immediate Past Chair shall be a fully functioning member of the SIG TACTL Executive Committee, performing special duties as designated by the Chair. The Past Chair will serve as Parliamentarian for SIG TACTL and will normally serve as Chair of the Nominating Committee.
Program Chair. The Program Chair shall be responsible for soliciting competitive proposals for TACTL presentation slots, coordinating the review/ranking of proposals, and notifying competitors of the final disposition of each proposal. The Program Chair shall also be responsible (along with the Program Chair-Elect) for suggesting modifications to presentation times/allocations based upon quality and quantity of proposals received. The Program Chair shall also be responsible for assigning session chairs and discussants and organizing any sessions for the upcoming annual meeting.
Program Chair-Elect. The Program Chair-Elect shall support the responsibilities of the Program Chair. The Program Chair-Elect shall automatically assume the role of the Program Chair after being elected and serving as Program Chair-Elect for one year.
Secretary/Treasurer. The Secretary/Treasurer shall be responsible for managing and reporting on the financial accounts of the SIG and the safekeeping of all financial documents of the SIG. The Secretary/Treasurer shall provide annual budget reports. The Secretary/Treasurer shall be responsible for the safekeeping of all documents and official correspondence of TACTL. The Secretary/Treasurer shall also be responsible for taking minutes during SIG TACTL Executive Committee meetings and ordering catering services for the SIG’s business meeting at the annual meeting. The Secretary/Treasurer shall also be responsible for maintaining TACTL web site and social media sites. After being elected, the Secretary/Treasurer serves for two years.
Non-Officer Positions:
Graduate Student Representative. The Graduate Student Representative(s) will be appointed by the SIG Chair, in consultation with the SIG’s Executive Committee, for a one-year term. The Graduate Student Representative will be responsible for serving as a liaison between the SIG and the AERA graduate student population. The Graduate Student Representative shall attend meetings with the SIG officers to provide input on—and help organize—graduate student events, outreach, and other initiatives of interest to graduate students. The Graduate Student Representative will receive mentorship in SIG leadership and organization from the SIG officers.
