Amy Price Azano, a former high school English and creative writing teacher, is an Associate Professor of Rural Education and Adolescent Literacy at Virginia Tech. Amy grew up in a small rural town in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley and became a first-generation college student, eventually earning her PhD from the University of Virginia. As a rural education scholar, she has published more than 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, is a co-author of Teaching in Rural Places: Thriving in Classrooms, Schools, and Communities; and co-editor of Gifted Education in Rural Schools: Developing Place-Based Interventions and The Bloomsbury Handbook of Rural Education in the United States. She has served as PI or Co-PI of several grants, including a US Department of Education grant, Promoting PLACE in Rural Schools, and the current Appalachian Rural Talent Initiative.
