Call for SIG Officer Nominations!
Due: October 15, 2025

We are excited to announce that nominations are now open for officer positions for our Law & Education SIG. Serving as an officer is a rewarding opportunity to contribute to the growth of our organization, strengthen our community, and shape the direction of our shared work. Officer's terms are bookended by the AERA Annual Meetings each April.

Open Positions:

  • Chair: The Chair shall be responsible for the general administration of the SIG, for ensuring that the SIG Bylaws are followed, and shall act as liaison between the SIG and AERA and the SIG and the SIG Executive Committee. The Chair shall preside at all meetings of its Executive Committee and the Annual Business Meeting. The Chair shall act as parliamentarian or shall appoint a SIG member to serve in that role for each meeting. The Chair shall appoint ad hoc committees as needed. Unless otherwise specified in these Bylaws, the Chair of the SIG shall appoint persons to assist officers, to chair committees or to carry out other work of the SIG. The Chair may post relevant calls for proposals and other announcements to the SIG listserv and website. This is a one-year position (April 2026- April 2027).
  • Secretary/Treasurer: The Secretary/Treasurer shall be responsible for managing and reporting on the financial accounts of the SIG and the safekeeping of all financial documents of the SIG. The Secretary/Treasurer is also responsible for taking minutes at the annual business meeting and overseeing the Law and Education SIG website. This is a two-year position (April 2026- April 2028). Also, you may not run for this office for consecutive terms.
  • Program Chair: The Program Chair shall solicit the Law and Education SIG membership for conference reviewers and shall be responsible for setting up panels and presentations for the annual conference. The Program Chair shall also be responsible for soliciting conference submissions and may post announcements to the SIG listserv and website. The Program Chair may not be a graduate student. This is a one-year position (April 2026- April 2027).
  • Web-Master: The Web-Master shall be responsible for updating the Law and Education SIG website. The Web-Master will work with the Secretary/Treasurer to post minutes, update contact information, and provide information on the website regarding current dues. In addition, the Chair, Program Chair, and Secretary/Treasurer from time to time will provide the Web-Master with information to post that will be of interest to the SIG membership, including relevant calls for proposals and announcements. This is a two-year position (April 2026- April 2028). Also, you may not run for this office for consecutive terms.

Why Serve?

  • Develop and demonstrate leadership skills
  • Expand your professional network
  • Contribute to advancing the mission of AERA and the Law & Education SIG

Eligibility:
All members in good standing of both AERA and the SIG. Please note that graduate students cannot be elected to the Chair and Program Chair positions. No person can serve in the same office for three consecutive years.

How to Nominate:

Please submit your nomination (including a brief bio and statement of interest) via this form by October 15th, 2025. Self-nominations are welcome. If you nominate someone else, you must receive prior consent of the individual to be nominated.
