It is a privilege to serve as Chair of the Law and Education SIG for the 2025–2026 academic year. This SIG continues to be a space where scholars, practitioners, and advocates come together to examine the evolving intersections of law, policy, and educational equity. I am excited to support and grow this community at a time when legal knowledge is essential to navigating both enduring and emerging challenges in education.

This year, our leadership team is focused on strengthening our internal infrastructure, spotlighting member scholarship, and expanding opportunities for engagement. Our goals include refreshing our SIG website and communication channels, promoting our AERA-approved Emerging Scholar Award, and planning an exciting program for the 2026 AERA Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, California.

We also invite you to become more involved. We are actively seeking volunteers to serve on ad hoc committees—including the Emerging Scholar Award Committee and the Nominating Committee—as well as members interested in helping with proposal review, mentoring graduate students, designing workshops, or contributing content to our website. Whether you're a longtime member or new to the SIG, your voice and leadership are welcome.

Our current officer team includes Roderick Lucero, Ph. D., as the Program Chair and Kendall Fujioka, J.D., as our Webmaster. We will be collaborating throughout the year to build community and increase transparency. Please feel free to contact me directly at scarlo@monmouth.edu with ideas, questions, or to express interest in getting involved. Thank you for being a part of the Law and Education SIG. I look forward to working with you in the year ahead.

Warm regards,

Steven M. Carlo
