Welcome to this year of AERA’s SIG Design and Technology. I am your new Chair, Patricia A. Young, Ph.D. Your current SIG officers include: Yvonne Earnshaw, Ph.D. Program Chair, Secretary/Treasurer: Sangeetha Carmona, Ed.D., and Communications Officer: Shangman (Eunice) Li.

I am reaching out to let you know we are planning and looking forward to meeting as many of you in Denver, Colorado. AERA’s new Theme is Research, Remedy, and Repair: Toward Just Education Renewal. One of the areas, from this year’s theme, that aligns with our SIG asks for research that considers: The possibilities, dangers, and pitfalls that advances in artificial intelligence and education technologies bring to education research and practice.

I believe that the research in artificial intelligence and educational technologies is the work that we do. This is an area where we can shine. Let’s break out and demonstrate how the research and practice in artificial intelligence and educational technologies are being defined and actualized by members of our SIG: Design & Technology. I am especially interested in those proposals that integrate: Culture, Design & Technology.

In charting this course, we need your assistance. Please consider submitting your proposal to our SIG. Feel free to email me should you want feedback on a pending proposal and/or aligning your ideas with AI and education technologies.

This year we are planning several webinars aimed at informing the collective and increasing membership. We hope you will attend. If you would like to host a webinar or have other ideas for the SIG, please let us know as we are planning now.

It’s our time to shine as experts in 21st-century design & technology.
Have a great summer!

All the best,
Patricia A. Young, Ph.D.
