The purposes of the Democratic Citizenship in Education SIG are to promote research and best practices associated with the development of democratic citizenship within both formal and informal educational spaces. The SIG offers a broad parameter of how “democratic citizenship” is defined, but the fundamental component of all presentations is to offer research and best practices as related to “voice,” “access,” “representation,” and “participation” within schools, out-of-school spaces, communities, and/or in society at large.
