Research Focus on Education and Sport

Each year SIG164 confers three (3) awards in an effort to recognize our outstanding RFES members. Below is the list of awards with a brief description. Award calls with instructions and application materials will be emailed out to the SIG during the award season.

Graduate Student/Emerging Scholar Travel Award

This $500 travel grant is presented to help offset travel costs for graduate students attending the AERA Annual Meeting. Applicants must be current graduate students, must be attending the annual meeting, and will need a letter of nomination.

Exemplary Early Career Scholar Award

This award seeks to recognize outstanding scholarly work and/or contributions to the field of scholarship focused on the intersection of education and sport. Nominees should be in the early stages of an individual’s career (no later than 10 years after receipt of the doctoral degree at the time of nomination).

Kristina Navarro-Krupka Scholar-Practitioner Award

Inaugurated to honor the memory of longtime SIG member and friend Dr. Kristina Navarro-Krupka, This award seeks to identify excellence in the athletics field by recognizing the work of those RFES members engaged in both research and athletics administration practice. Nominees must work primarily in a practitioner role while also contributing research and scholarship to the SIG and broader education and sport fields.
