The Latina/o/x Research Issues (LRI) Special Interest Group brings together scholars, practitioners, and graduate students committed to advancing research on the educational experiences, identities, and outcomes of Latina/o/x communities. Since our founding, LRI has served as an intellectual and professional home within AERA for research that is asset-based, community-engaged, and grounded in the lived realities of Latina/o/x students, families, and educators.

Whether your work centers on P-12 education, higher education, policy, or community-based research, LRI offers a space to connect with colleagues who share your commitments and to help shape the direction of Latina/o/x educational research worldwide.

Why Join LRI?

  • Community/Communidad: Connect with a growing national network of scholars and practitioners dedicated to Latina/o/x educational research.
  • Mentorship: Access mentoring relationships and professional development opportunities designed for graduate students and early-career scholars.
  • Visibility: Present and discuss your research at the AERA Annual Meeting through SIG-sponsored sessions, and pursue recognition through LRI awards.
  • Leadership: Get involved in SIG governance and committees, and build leadership experience within a national professional association.
  • Advocacy: Contribute to a collective voice on issues affecting Latina/o/x students, educators, and communities within educational research and policy.

Who Should Join

LRI welcomes AERA members at every career stage (e.g. graduate students, early-career faculty, senior scholars, and practitioners) who study, teach, or work in service of Latina/o/x communities in education. You do not need to identify as Latina/o/x to join; LRI welcomes all who share our commitment to equity-centered, community-grounded research.
