The mission of the SIG is to provide a forum for researchers and youth work/OST practitioners in out-of-school time teaching and learning to share resources and become each other's resources; to provide venues and opportunities to present related research; and to bring additional resources to AERA. The SIG will leverage its platform to promote collaboration and dialogue across major OST stakeholders for community advocacy for the optimal development of young people.
Welcome to the website for the Out-of-School Time Special Interest Group (SIG)! Our SIG is designed to provide a forum for researchers and youth work/OST practitioners to share resources and engage in thought partnership. We believe that youth development programs play a critical role in the holistic learning and development of our young people. Through these programs and services that operate outside of the traditional school space, our youth are developing critical voice, becoming civic minded leaders and strengthening their academic skills. We hope that through this platform, we are able to build community across our sector and share valuable resources that enlighten and enrich our membership.
Please visit this site regularly for updates on our programming and opportunities to engage in critical conversations that center on the experience of youth and practitioners in out of school time spaces. You can also stay engaged to our community on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. If you would like to connect with our SIG leadership or have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us via email. We are so appreciative of your membership and interest in our group. We look forward to staying connected in this virtual place.
Sincerely,
