Message from SIG Chair

Greetings OST Family,

It has been an honor serving as chair of the out-of-school time (OST) SIG for the past year. With the cancellation of AERA’s 2020 conference, we were unable to physically convene for our business meeting. We remain hopeful amid the public health and racial pandemics experienced in the United States and across the world. As the OST Community, we are reminded daily of the possibilities to re-envision our purpose and the countless opportunities we have to serve children and families. Many of us are balancing our own families and careers while addressing trauma in local schools and communities. Yet, we remain present and hopeful.

This year, we are excited to present webinars that leverage the expertise of OST researchers and practitioners, as we explore some of the most pressing issues. We are working hard to carry out the SIG’s vision and mission and look forward to sharing cutting edge approaches from the OST Sector during these critical times.

We believe in the importance of out-of-school time, and how essential it is for life-long learning and development. Thank you for the seeds that you sow in your communities and the lives of youth each and everyday. We are truly grateful for your membership in our special interest group and look forward to your continued involvement.

Warmest regards,
Dr. Natalie S. King, Chair
