Welcome to Critical Educators for Social Justice (CESJ)!

Welcome critical educator! 

We are excited that you stopped by our page to check out what the Critical Educators for Social Justice (CESJ) SIG is all about. Birthed by teachers, community activists, and university faculty to fight educational injustice, CESJ remains “committed to teach, promote, and implement the principles of critical pedagogy in order to establish an educational movement grounded in the struggle for social and economic justice, human rights and economic democracy.”

The current political climate has organized campaigns around the erasure of our collective knowledge traditions and ways of being, through book banning, refusal to teach about race and racism, attacks on LGBTQIAA+ identified people, and most recently the striking down of  Affirmative action. We recognize these destructive efforts and collectively press into social activism that is rooted in love, hope and joy for a more just future. Like before, this will require a village. As one of the largest AERA SIGs, we invite and actually need you to get involved in CESJ. There are many ways, whether that’s serving on an award committee, volunteering as a conference reviewer, submitting proposals, or hosting justice events. However you can, please get involved. We hope to advance critical research and scholarly conversation in CESJ with your contribution and presence in our SIG.
