Richard Volpe
Professor and Projects Director

Education: PhD, University of Alberta
Background: Dr. Volpe was a Laidlaw Foundation Post Doctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto, Hospital for Sick Children and the Clark Institute of Psychiatry. He is currently Professor and Projects Director of the Life Span Adaptation Projects, and the Institute of Child Study at the Department of Human Development and Applied Psychology (OISE). He is also a member of the Graduate Department of Community Health and the Institute for Life Course and Aging. Previously, he was Director of theLaidlaw Research Centre, Director of the Laidlaw Foundation's Evaluation and Conceptual Elaboration Unit of their Child at Risk Program, Chair of the Institute for the Prevention of Child Abuse, Co-Chair of the Justice for Children and Youth, and an Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Senior Evaluation Expert. Currently, he is a member and Chair of the Best Practices Committee of the Provincial Advisory Committee of the Ontario Injury Prevention Resource Centre (OIPRC), a member of the Prevention Committee of the Ontario Neurotrauma Foundation, on the National advisory of the Canadian Association of Family Resource Programs, a Member of Editorial Board of the International Journal of Children’s Services and Fellow of the American Ortho-psychiatric Association. Dr. Volpe has written and spoken extensively on both intentional and unintentional injury. His current research deals with applications of prevention science, knowledge mobilization, and the promotion of evidence informed practice.

Jeffrey Anderson

Background: Dr. Anderson is a tenured associate professor of special education in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and is an appointed research faculty member of the Center for Adolescent and Family Studies, both in the School of Education at Indiana University-Bloomington. He also holds an adjunct appointment in the Department of Public Health within the IU School of Medicine and is a core faculty member of the Indiana Consortium for Mental Health Services Research. Dr. Anderson presents his work widely and publishes in top-tiered journals in a variety of fields including education, mental health, and social work. Broadly, his work focuses on how social services can help to support academic achievement; however, his true passion is bringing an authentic interdisciplinary focus to P-12 education.

Katherine M. Thompson

Background: Katherine is currently a PhD student in the Human Development and Applied Psychology Department at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto. Her Master's thesis, "School suspension: Adolescent family and school determinants,” explored the relationships between school, family, and the adolescent, and the impact of suspension on student experience. Her current research considers resources available to secondary school students and school personnel. It builds on previous research looking at the ability of students to self-advocate, the hidden barriers to help-seeking behaviors, and the implications for effective provision of student supports and resources.

Background: Dr. Salm is currently the Director of the Greystone Centre for Interprofessional Collaboration and Director of the Professional Development and Field Placement Office in the Faculty of Education at the University of Regina. She was a middle school years and high school teacher prior to becoming an Assistant Professor in Health Education at the University of Regina.
