AERA Responds to Call for Hyatt Boycott

AERA President Bill Tierney and Executive Director Felice Levine respond to notification that a number of Annual Meeting attendees were calling on the Association to boycott the Grand Hyatt San Francisco, one of AERA’s six headquarter hotels for the 2013 Annual Meeting. Read more

In his presidential address, William Tierney will examine the twin themes of how educational organizations might improve access and equity, and what the role of the intellectual is in the elimination of poverty. Read more

A Special Focus on the Fisher Case
With the Supreme Court’s decision in Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin imminent, two timely Annual Meeting sessions will outline the scientific evidence on the use of race as one factor in university admissions, as outlined in the AERA et al amicus brief submitted to the U.S. Supreme Court, and the implications of the coming ruling to higher education. Three AERA task forces launched last year will present reports in San Francisco; task forces held open forums for all AERA members at the 2012 Annual Meeting. Read more

Top Policy Officials Headline Sessions
Key science and research policy officials at U.S. federal agencies will speak on the current state of education research policies and priorities at the Annual Meeting. Sessions featuring leadership at the National Science Foundation (NSF) and U.S. Department of Education are among several that will focus on emerging topics in education and social science research. Broadening Diversity in Science
A presidential session on April 28 titled CEDS Report: Enhancing Diversity in Science: Working Together to Develop Common Data, Measures, and Standards, will provide an overview of – and responses to – a new report from the Collaborative for Enhancing Diversity in Science (CEDS). Read more
