socpMessage from the International Studies SIG 054 Chair
Elizabeth C. Reilly
Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles, CA, USA

September 24, 2019

Welcome to International Studies SIG 54! Our SIG promotes scholarship and the exchange of ideas among those who have an interest in international and cross-culturally comparative research. If it’s international in reach, our SIG is the home for you.

We strive to cultivate an inclusive community among scholars and practitioners globally. We hope this website provides you with useful information about the SIG, including its officers, award-winners, and special events during and beyond the annual meeting of AERA.

As one of AERA’s larger SIGs, our membership hovers around 200. Because we receive a large number of submissions, we are granted a sizeable number of opportunities to present our international work.

For AERA 2019, held in Toronto, our SIG’s schedule for the Annual Meeting featured six symposia, twelve roundtables, four paper sessions, one poster session, and one business meeting-reception. Our SIG presented 91 papers at a total of 23 events.

In terms of promoting research and the exchange of ideas, we are open to additional partnerships and other events to address topics of interest to SIG members, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to SIG officers with suggestions.

Our SIG is deeply committed to mentoring graduate students and rising scholars, and to fostering stronger ties among scholars of all ranks and roles within the field. Graduate students with accepted papers can apply to receive scholarships to help support their attendance at AERA San Francisco in 2020.

Do reach out if you have suggestions for our SIG or if you wish to support any aspect of our work.

Looking forward,

Elizabeth C. Reilly

Chair, International Studies SIG 54, 2019-2022
