The AERA Welcoming Orientation for first-time attendees and new members takes place at 7:00 a.m.–8:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 14—the first full day of the Annual Meeting. With coffee and informal conversation at roundtables, the orientation provides an opportunity for attendees to talk. The orientation and open discussion are led by President Arnetha F. Ball, along with President-Elect William G. Tierney and Executive Director Felice Levine.

The Welcoming Orientation provides newcomers to the meetings and the Association with helpful tips for navigating the event in terms of the substantive program and professional opportunities. Attendees will also have a chance to learn more about the Association and its programs and services of potential interest, as well as ways to become involved in AERA. This is a time to ask candid questions and get answers and information.

The Welcoming Orientation was instituted at the 2004 Annual Meeting and has since served as a platform to engage newcomers and new members in AERA. Graduate students and experienced researchers attend from all parts of the world. This year’s orientation will take place in the Vancouver Convention Centre, First Level, East Ballroom A.
