AERA Opening Plenary Session: Vancouver, British Columbia First Nations Peoples Welcomes the 2012 AERA Annual Meeting

Linda Tuhiwai Smith interprets the conference theme “To Know Is Not Enough” and reviews “what we know” about researching indigenous education. She provides insights about the politics, policies, and practicalities of applying available knowledge to indigenous learning contexts. The talk draws from diverse research projects that have explored indigenous knowledge, cultural revitalization, research methodologies, activism, and the search for well-being within and beyond the education context. Smith addresses some of the barriers to indigenous educational achievement as well as some of the triumphs.
