The AERA Teacher as Researcher SIG is dedicated to supporting research done in schools by PreK-12 practitioners on their own practice.  While this work can be conducted in collaboration with other researchers, it should reflect equity of initiation, data collection, analysis and presentation, with teachers sharing primary credit and responsibility.  We are the only special interest group whose core purpose is the articulation and representation of classroom teachers' perspectives by the classroom teachers themselves.

Please use the menu to the left to learn more about the Teacher as Researcher SIG.

As we officially enter the summer season, we have some exciting updates from the Teacher as Researcher SIG!

First, we invite you to submit a proposal to share your research at the 2026 Annual Meeting through the Teacher as Researcher SIG. We look forward to reviewing proposals that align with our mission to support PreK-12 classroom teachers in designing, creating, conducting, and sharing classroom focused research from the PreK-12 practitioner perspective. Please see attachment for more information.

Second, our co-program chairs are hosting monthly virtual meetings to support our members in proposal writing!  In the first session, on July 7th from 6:30 - 7:30 EST, Susanne and Lisa Rose will review the TAR-SIG rubric and share prior successful papers, while also saving time to network and ask questions. All you need is yourself to join the following Google Meet link: https://meet.google.com/tge-qkpb-kxo

Third, a logistical update: Our newsletters are shifting from seasonal emails to a running newsletter (linked here) where you will find spotlight features, important announcements, and ongoing updates. Be on the lookout for emails prompting you to check it out. Better ye t, bookmark it now so you don’t miss anything!
