The SIG Leadership is pleased to sponsor three awards. Information on each may be found below.

Best Student Paper Award

  • Best Student Paper Award is an award targeted to graduate students studying in the field of assessment in higher education and will be given to a graduate student author with an exemplary paper within the SIG track. Funding to attend the conference will be provided to the winner. Eligibility for the best student paper award is proof of being a current graduate student at the time of the upcoming AERA conference, acceptance of paper into the SIG program, and submission of completed paper by the award deadline. The nomination process for the best student paper includes alerting the SIG leadership upon submission of a proposal into the AERA system that the graduate student would like their paper to be considered for the award. Graduate students will have two weeks after the AERA submission process has closed to alert the SIG leadership of their nomination. When graduate students email the SIG leadership that they would like their paper to be considered, proof of current status as a graduate student is required.

Exemplary Paper Award

  • Exemplary Paper Award is an award targeted for anyone submitting a paper to the SIG track – student, faculty, or staff. Eligibility for the exemplary paper award requires acceptance of paper into the SIG program and submission of completed paper by the award deadline. The nomination process for the exemplary paper award includes alerting the SIG leadership upon submission of a proposal into the AERA system that the submitter would like their paper to be considered for the award. Nominees will have two weeks after the AERA submission process has closed to alert the SIG leadership of their nomination.

Emerging Scholar Award

  • Emerging Scholar Award honors early-career individuals within their first 5-7 years working in the field that are pursuing research congruent with the interests of the Measurement and Assessment in Higher Education SIG, and shows promise of advancing the knowledge-base of assessment in higher education. The nomination process for the emerging scholar award may either occur through self-nomination or nomination by others. Nominations will be accepted in the same time frame as the AERA submission process, while nominees are not required to submit a paper or proposal to the SIG, the timeline will be the same.
