Welcome OST SIG Members and Interested Guests!

Our SIG was founded in 2006 under the leadership of Sara Hill to "provide a forum for researchers in out-of-school time teaching and learning to share resources and become each others' resources; to provide venues and opportunities to present related research; to bring additional knowledge and resources to AERA." We continue to fulfill this purpose, and are pleased that the SIG is growing and strengthening as a core research group dedicated to OST issues.

2018-19 promises to be an exciting year for our SIG as we reinvigorate our membershipo, welcome new members, engage in important conversations about our work, and expand our growing field.  A few highlights for 2019:

  • We have two symposia, two round table discussions, and a robust business meeting planned for the AERA annual meeting this year.  Please plan to attend!
  • The first two books in the Information Age Publishing Current Issues in Out-Of-School Time book series, dedicated to the AERA OST SIG, have been published.
  • We plan to announce two winners of the OST Scholars and Emerging Scholars awards at the 2019 business meeting.  Join us to help celebrate their accomplishments!
  • We will be publishing an OST SIG newsletter on a quarterly basis with opportunities to contribute information about your upcoming work. Contact any of the officers if you are interested in submitting something.
  • Our Facebook page, OST World, is active - please check it out for the latest resources and information about our field.

This is just a snapshot of a few of our planned activities for 2018-19.  Please join us for what promises to be a great, field-building year.  I look forward to meeting each and every one of you very soon.

Warmly,

Elizabeth Devaney
