Notifications for 2024 AERA Annual Meeting submissions were sent on November 10. Registration and housing will open in December. The 2024 theme—“Dismantling Racial Injustice and Constructing Educational Possibilities: A Call to Action”—“asks research, practitioners, and policy makers to imagine boldly what education spaces free of racial injustice can look like.”
On October 19, Leslie T. Fenwick presented the 20th Anniversary Brown Lecture in Education Research, “Otherwise Qualified: The Untold Story of Brown and Black Educators’ Professional Superiority,” to an in-person audience of well over 400 and a virtual audience of more than 1,000 from 20 countries. AERA invites fellowship applications for an Undergraduate Student Education Research Training Workshop to be held Wednesday, April 10 – Saturday, April 13, 2024, during the AERA Annual Meeting in Philadelphia. The deadline to apply is November 30. Learn more

On November 13, the House Rules Committee reported a rule to advance H.R. 5894, the FY 2024 House Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education bill to the full House of Representatives. The consideration of this bill on the House floor includes an amendment (Amendment 76) that eliminates all FY 2024 funding for the Institute of Education Sciences. This amendment is without foundation, and strikes at the heart of bipartisan support for evidence-based policy and practice in education. Read more
Participating in policy debate programs in middle and high school is associated with improvements in English language arts achievement and increases in the likelihood that students graduate from high school and enroll in postsecondary education. Read more
