Subscribing to an AERA List

You may subscribe to any list by following this procedure:

Send a new email to: LISTSERV@LISTSERV.AERA.NET
In the body of the email type only:
SUB listnameYourFirstName YourLastName

For example, suppose you wished to subscribe to the general AERA List that carries announcements of conferences, publications and job openings, and that your name is Jo Nomen.

Address an email to LISTSERV@LISTSERV.AERA.NET and in the body of the email type only:
SUB AERA Joe Noman

You must use two names—your first name and your last name, in order for the subscription to go through.

You may also subscribe to any AERA mailing list on the website for that list.

Canceling or Suspending your Subscription

Just as you subscribe you may remove your name from a list by following this procedure:

Send an email to: LISTSERV@LISTSERV.AERA.NET
In the body of the email type only:
UNSUB listname

For example, Jo Nomen's email letter to LISTSERV@LISTSERV.AERA.NET would contain just two words: UNSUB AERA

If you wish to suspend your subscription so that it will not clog your mailbox while you are temporarily away, follow this
procedure:

Send an email to: LISTSERV@LISTSERV.AERA.NET
In the body of your email type only:
SET listname NOMAIL

When you wish to restart your subscription, send a similar email:

Send an email to: LISTSERV@LISTSERV.AERA.NET
In the body of the email type only:
SET listname MAIL

You may also unsubscribe from or suspend your membership to any AERA mailing list on the website for that list.

Sending Email to the List

To send an email to the entire list, address your message to:
Listname @listserv.aera.net

Where "Listname" is the name of the mailing list to which you wish to send your message.

Trouble with Commands or Unsubscribing

There are several conditions that could interfere with LISTSERV's ability to respond to your commands. The main problem is that email addresses may change and LISTSERV no longer can recognize your return address as belonging to a subscriber. In that case, you can't even unsubscribe yourself. Your only recourse is to write to AERA Listserv Support and ask to have your subscription deleted. Then you can resubscribe with your new address.
