The AERA-ICPSR PEERS Data Hub will hold a free workshop on “Modern Meta-Analysis Research” on February 10, 1:00 pm–3:30 pm ET. The workshop is the first in a series of webinars offered through the PEERS Data Hub that will focus on research methods in STEM education research. Read more

AERA has announced four professional development courses that will be held immediately following the 2021 Virtual Annual Meeting, on April 13–16. All courses run from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET. Read more

Hundreds of Presentations from 2020 Annual Meeting Paper Authors Now Available in AERA Interactive Presentation Gallery
The AERA Interactive Presentation Gallery is now open for viewing the presentations of more than 430 papers accepted for the 2020 AERA Annual Meeting. The gallery is a place to discover new research, contact authors, and explore interactive web-based posters—many with narration. Read more

AERA Announces Recipients of Dissertation and Research Grant Awards
AERA has announced 22 recipients of the Dissertation and Research Grant Awards. Recipients are studying salient and relevant topics in education research and STEM such as science learning, early childhood development and mathematics skills, LGBTQ issues in schools, teacher and student school experiences, and outcomes of education policies and practices. Read more

AERA Joins ASA, COPAFS, and Others to Urge Bolstering of Federal Statistical Agencies
On January 28, AERA joined the American Statistical Association, the Council of Professional Associations on Federal Statistics, and other supporters of federal statistics in urging specific actions to address both the immediate data integrity issues and the decades-long challenges that have undercut the ability of the principal federal statistical agencies to carry out their missions to the fullest. Read more

AERA Speaks Out on Mob Attack on Capitol
On January 6, AERA President Felice J. Levine issued a statement following the violent attempt by supporters of outgoing president Donald Trump to prevent members of Congress from fulfilling their constitutional duty to certify Electoral College results that confirmed Joe Biden as the winner of the 2020 presidential election. Read more

On January 28, House Education and Labor Chairman Bobby Scott (D-VA), Delegate Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan (D-Northern Mariana Islands), and Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez (D-NM) introduced the Learning Recovery Act. Read more

Biden Issues Executive Order on Reopening Schools, Calls for Data and Evidence-Based Guidance
On January 21, President Joe Biden released the National Strategy for the COVID-19 Response and Pandemic Preparedness, accompanied by several executive orders to implement the strategy. Read more

Biden Announces Nominations for Department of Education, OSTP as Term Begins
Prior to the inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris on January 20, the Biden transition team announced the nominations of Cabinet members and key advisors to join the administration. Read more

117th Congress Convenes with Changes in Committee Leadership and Membership
With the backdrop of an attempted insurrection and a pending switch in control of the Senate, members of the 117th Congress were sworn in and have begun their work. Read more

Call for Editors, RRE 2023, 2025—Deadline Extended: March 23

Beyond AERA

The deadline for nominations for the 2021 Yidan Prize for Education Research and Yidan Prize for Education Development is March 31. The recipient of each award receives HK$30 million (around US$3.9 million). The Yidan Prize Foundation will host two informational webinars about the prize and the nomination process on February 9. Learn more

The deadline for the 2021 Klaus J. Jacobs Research Prize is March 14. The prize is awarded for outstanding scientific contributions by individuals from all scholarly disciplines aiming to improve the learning, development, and living conditions of children and youth. The recipient receives 1 million Swiss francs (approximately US$1.12 million) for a research project and related costs. Learn more
