Dear Educational Change SIG Members,

Happy new year! We are gearing up for AERA with some great programming coming your way! Also, please do not forget to vote for your new leadership team. Seeing the ballot - we are so lucky to have so many wonderful people and scholars in our community. Thank you for your willingness to serve! 

This newsletter includes:

Lead The Change - special issue! 

This month we have a special issue of  Lead the Change with interviews of 4 participants from a virtual convening on Education System (Re)Building for Equity and Social Justice in Teaching and Learning organized by Amanda Datnow, Vicki Park, Don Peurach, and Jim Spillane, with the support of the Spencer Foundation. The participants are: Phýõng Minh Lýõng, Amelia Petersen, Tine Prøitz, and Maria Teresa Tatto. We are grateful for the opportunity to share their insights and important work!

Enjoy and if you have suggestions for people to feature or would like to write for us - let us know! 

SIG AWARDS: Student Travel

Educational Change SIG Student Travel Award

Due February 9th to

Award: The awardee, a doctoral student who is a member of the Ed Change SIG, will receive $500 to assist with expenses related to attending the AERA Annual Meeting.

Application must include:

  • Personal information: name, phone number, e-mail address, degree program, institution, and paper title.
  • An electronic copy of your proposal.
  • A screenshot or PDF copy of the acceptance notification from the AERA program portal.
  • A blinded personal statement form containing 250 words on the significance of the scholarship to education change, your professional development, and/or participation in the Annual Meeting.

Applicant criteria for eligibility:

Applicant Background:

  • Graduate student member of AERA
  • Current Member of the Education Change SIG at the time of the Annual Meeting.
  • Enrolled full-time in a doctoral program. 


  • Applicant is an author on a paper, roundtable, or poster submission accepted for presentation for any Ed Change session.
  • Single or multiple author papers are acceptable.


  • Applicant will attend the Ed Change SIG Business Meeting.
