WERA Celebrates 10th Anniversary at World Congress in Tokyo
The World Education Research Association convened its Annual Focal Meeting in Tokyo, Japan, August 5–8. Held at the University of Tokyo and Gakushuin University in conjunction with the Japanese Educational Research Association (JERA) Conference, the 2019 Focal Meeting attracted well over 1,300 education researchers from 65 countries. Read more

AERA Nominating Committee Seeks Recommendations for President-elect and At-large Council Members

On August 8, the Consortium of Social Science Associations, of which AERA is an active member, held a deep-dive discussion on how scientists can effectively advocate to federal policymakers from home. NCES and Department of Education Office of Civil Rights to Partner on Civil Rights Data Collection
On August 23, the Department of Education announced that the National Center for Education Statistics would work with the department’s Office of Civil Rights to improve the quality of data in the Civil Rights Data Collection. Read more

NIH Further Delays Clinical Trial Reporting Requirements for Basic Research Involving Humans until September 2021
On July 24, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced that it would be extending a delay for enforcing the clinical trial reporting requirements for NIH-funded “basic experimental studies with humans” through September 24, 2021. Read more

President Signs Two-Year Budget Agreement, Leading to Busy September for Congress
On August 2, President Donald Trump signed a two-year budget agreement that suspends the debt ceiling through July 31, 2021, and raises spending caps for the 2020 and 2021 fiscal years. Read more
