AERA Features Graduate Students and Early Career Scholars Across the Annual Meeting Program

March 2023

The 2023 AERA Annual Meeting will feature the work of thousands of early career scholars and graduate students across all components of the program—including division, SIG, and committee sessions. The Graduate Student Council will host fireside chats, through its 12 divisions, and provide compelling sessions through its invited programming.

New this year, the Graduate Student Research-in-Progress Roundtable Series is being test-piloted as a special component of the Annual Meeting that will give accepted graduate students the opportunity to share and discuss their work in progress on site in Chicago. The roundtable series features 200 graduate students who are actively engaged in research but were not yet ready to advance a paper submission in response to the 2023 Call for Submissions. They will participate in 55 roundtables that will be held April 13-15, from 2:50 p.m. to 4:20 p.m. All three sessions will take place in the Hyatt Regency Chicago, East Tower - Ballroom Level, Grand Ballroom B.

“As we gather for the premier annual convening of education scholars, it is important that we not only spotlight the work of established scholars in the field but also recognize and support the important work of our next generation of education research leaders,” said AERA Executive Director Felice J. Levine. “Our investment in them now will pay dividends to the field and the communities it serves for years to come.”

In addition, two special poster sessions will take place in the Exhibit Hall during the place-based component of the meeting in Chicago featuring recent dissertation fellows and early career scholars:

Promising Scholarship in Education Research: Dissertation Fellows and Their Research
Friday, April 14, 11:40 a.m. to 1:10 p.m.
Hyatt Regency Chicago, East Tower – Exhibit Level – Riverside West Exhibit Hall

Excellence in Education Research: Early Career Scholars and Their Work
Saturday, April 15, 11:40 a.m. to 1:10 p.m.
Hyatt Regency Chicago, East Tower – Exhibit Level – Riverside West Exhibit Hall

The dissertation fellows poster session highlights research supported by the AERA-NSF Grants Program, the AERA Minority Dissertation Fellowship Program in Education Research, and the NAEd/Spencer Dissertation Fellowship Program. The early career scholars’ session features research funded by the AERA-NSF Grants Program, the AERA Fellowship Program on the Study of Deeper Learning, and the NAEd/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowship Program.
