I participated in AERA first as a graduate student where I presented a paper on item-format effects. Following that session, the session chair, Tom Haladyna, invited me to lunch, and that led to a 20-year research and writing partnership that continues today. AERA provided me with opportunities to present and engage in scholarly conversations with the nation's leading educational researchers. It continues to challenge my thinking and decision making regarding research ideas to pursue. AERA has been an important source of input and feedback in my research career, inspiring me to pursue areas of methodological and practical relevance to researchers and practitioners.
