Purpose: To cultivate and support new scholars in the field of lesson study and to recognize their achievements.
Description: This annual award is given to one exemplary SIG paper presented by a graduate student at one of the Lesson Study SIG sessions during the AERA annual meeting (the past and the current year). The paper will contribute to the knowledge base in lesson study.
Eligibility Criteria: All graduate students who have not obtained a terminal degree (master's or doctorate) by December 31st in the year that the paper was accepted for presentation at the upcoming AERA's annual conference are eligible. Nominations are automatically considered if the lead author is a graduate student as of December 31st in the year that the paper was accepted for presentation for the upcoming conference. All papers not selected for the award will be considered one more time for the following year’s award. After being considered for the award twice, papers will not be eligible for consideration again. Nominees can be domestic or international scholars.
Nomination Process and Timeline: No nomination will be required. All the papers where the lead author is a graduate student by December 31st of the year when the paper was submitted will be eligible. The chair of the awards committee will request a CV from the nominees to verify the date of the terminal degree.
