NAEP Studies: SIG 99

Call for NAEP Studies SIG Officer Nominations

We are almost halfway through the 2022-2023 year, but we must look ahead for the next year as well.  We invite everyone to consider running for a leadership position in the NAEP Studies SIG.  Serving on the SIG Leadership Committee is a great opportunity to help shape the SIG, as well as give back to the research community.

The following positions have openings within the NAEP Studies SIG for the 2023-2024 year:

  • Chair-Elect (1 year)
    • The Chair-Elect shall be responsible for supporting the chair and the general activities of the SIG and for learning the roles and responsibilities of the chair role. There is an automatic succession of the following offices, from Chair-Elect to Chair, in that order, such that the person elected as Chair-Elect shall automatically assume the office of Chair after serving one term (defined as one year) as Chair-Elect.
  • Secretary (1 year)
    • The Secretary shall be responsible for taking notes at the annual business meeting and conference calls and arranging for posting minutes on the NAEP Studies SIG website.
  • Treasurer (1 year)
    • The Treasurer shall be responsible for managing and reporting on the financial accounts of the SIG and the safe keeping of all financial documents of the SIG.
  • Program Co-Chair (2 years)
    • The Program Co-Chairs shall be responsible for requesting time on the Annual Meeting program from AERA and submit to AERA in a timely fashion the necessary materials to have the SIG listed in the Call for Papers. In collaboration with the Chair, the Program Co-Chairs solicit papers for the annual conference, solicit symposium and workshop proposals, receive program proposals, assign them for review, collect reviews, decide upon programs to be accepted and notify authors of the proposals and also AERA of the program. They also recruit and assign moderators and discussants for paper sessions.
  • Newsletter Editor (1 year)
    • The Newsletter Coordinator shall be responsible for collecting information from the other officers, drafting a newsletter at least twice a year and obtaining the approval of the Executive Committee.
  • Webmaster (1 year)
    • The Webmaster shall be responsible for keeping the NAEP SIG website and other NAEP SIG social media up to date.
If you would like to nominate someone (including yourself!) for one of these positions, please send an email to me (Amy Dresher, adresher@ets.org) no later than Monday, October 31, 12:00pm (PST) with the following information:

  • The full name of the candidate
  • The institutional affiliation of the candidate
  • The candidate’s email address
  • A biographical statement for the candidate, which can be up to 200 words
As a reminder:

  • AERA policy requires that all elections be competitive; that is, there must be two or more candidates for each elected office.
  • Candidates must be current, voting members of AERA and current members of the SIG.
  • Graduate students can only serve in positions designated for graduate students (e.g., Graduate Student Representative.)
  • No individual can serve in any one role for more than three consecutive years.
