| Abstract: |
This paper works with the ideas of the French Caribbean poet and place-philosopher Édouard Glissant (1928-2011) as a guide in the murky realm of epistemic imaginaries. The term ‘epistemic imaginary’ refers to the power of the imagination in sparking insight, shaping knowledge practices, and establishing epistemic authority. This paper considers five contemporary thinkers who turn to Glissant to shape a new epistemic imaginary adequate to current curricular debates and the urgent need to re-establish trust and credibility of truth claims. This is a conceptual/theoretical paper, in which I show how Glissant is relevant to concerns of curriculum studies, in particular: cultural erasure, algorithmic reason, and disputes regarding earth and climate science.
