Abstract: |
This study analyzed the association between scores on a constructed-response SJT and progress through the holistic admissions process of a private US medical school, with a specific focus on the impact of the test on applicants from backgrounds underrepresented in medicine (URiM). During the study period, SJT results were recorded but not utilized in the admissions process.
SJT scores associated with interview selection and performance, along with admissions offer (OR= 1.16-1.36 (95%CI [1.08-1.63]. URiM applicants showed more similar SJT performance to non-URiM applicants as compared to GPA and MCAT. Findings indicate that the constructed-response SJT can be a useful early indicator of admissions success and help reduce demographic disparities early in the admissions process.
