Social-emotional skills (SE skills) have been often mentioned in predicting various life outcome variables. However, research has not focus on what matters for its development during adolescence. Our study utilizes a large Chinese dataset of 7,268 students from OECD, analyzing the role of mindsets across students, parents, and teachers in skills acquisition as well as the underlying mechanism. The results found that students' own mindsets accounted more than parents and teachers of the explained variances. Moreover, teachers and parents not only directly but also indirectly predicted students’ skills through shaping their growth mindsets. Therefore, adults did pass growth mindsets to the students, thereby developing their SE skills. Practical implications are discussed, along with insights into future education of SE skills.
